  • Each module - once a week, for 1.5 hours each
  • Semester 1 (January to June) or Semester 2 (July to December)

» English Composition & Oral

This module will alternate between composition writing and verbal communication as tested in the oral examination. In composition writing, the typical approach is as follows.

  • For each category of essay, the teacher will go through the various techniques to bring out the best.
  • The teacher will go through some model essays.
  • The student will be asked to write an essay of a similar topic.
  • The teacher will critique selected essay pointing out the problems and ways to improve them.

For the oral aspect, the following approach is used

  • Selected students will be asked to read passages. The teacher will point out errors in pronunciation as well as ways to deliver the passage in a more lively manner.
  • Select a topic of the day, give some hints on how to approach the topic and then get students to talk about the topic. The teacher will then point out ways to give a better delivery. Each student will have a chance to speak and the class will be able to see the kinds of mistakes made and how they can be corrected.

» English Main Paper

The main emphasis of this module is comprehension and cloze, although other aspects of the main paper will also be covered from time to time.

  • In each session there will be at least a comprehension passage and a cloze passage (normally without helping words).
  • A brief introduction will be given and then students will be asked to spend some time to work the answer. The teacher will then go through the passages, pointing out the type of techniques normally used to derive the answer.

» Mathematics

In this module, the class will cover each topic of the syllabus, tracking that done in the school. Before each major assessment, emphasis will be placed on assessment style review. During June and December, more advanced olympiad style topic will be introduced to give students depth in adddressing the more challenging questions that may appear in the exams. Each typical session will be conducted in the following manner.

  • Review of methods to solve different types of problems
  • Explain using sample problems
  • Getting students to solve typical problems in class and explain their solution to the class. Teacher will correct student's mistakes and/or misconceptions.
  • Appropriate number of home work to be performed by students

  • The teacher will go through some model essays.
  • The student will be asked to write an essay of a similar topic.
  • The teacher will critique selected essay pointing out the problems and ways to improve them.
